National Institute of Co-operative Development (NICD) established as Co-operative School at Polgolla, Kandy in 1945 with the objective of training cooperative officers attached to the Cooperative movement in Sri Lanka. In 2001 the Co-operative School was upgraded to the present status with a revised mandate to cater to the needs of the cooperative movement in the country under the new dynamics of globalization and economic liberalization and with that the college acquired its present name. Since then NICD has grown up to be a premier centre of education and training outside of capital Colombo offering diploma, certificate and short-term courses, consultancy services and training programmes not only in the field of cooperative studies but also in supplementary professional and academic fields as part of its own mandated work and also on behalf of other recognized professional and academic bodies including Universities. Its role in preparing candidates for the Bachelor of Information Technology conducted by the University of Colombo and Professional Accountancy Courses by the AAT, CA Sri Lanka are two examples of this new and diversified role as an educational service provider.

  • Diploma Course in Cooperative Development
  • Diploma Courses on Accountancy, Banking, Auditing, Human Resource Management, Microfinance, Marketing, and Business Management for cooperative officers and other professionals
