The National Institute of Co-operative Development has established in 2001 with the intention of a new co-operative educational system with new strategies. Currently the NICD is functioned by the Ministry of Industry and commerce. The main goal of the institution is to provide the training programs, consulting services and researches to develop the human capital involved in the co-operative movement and the public sector in Sri Lanka.

Celebrate 94th International Co-operative day in year 2016
International Co-operative Alliance has announced July 02nd, 2016 as The 2016 International Day of Co-operatives under the theme “The power to act for a sustainable future”. According to the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, National Institute of Co-operative Development has organized successful events on 30/06/2016 at Mahinda Rajapaksha Auditorium under the theme Co-operative Education, Membership Development and Active Member Participation.
